richard morton paye the artist in his studio

Two interesting things here: a mirror being used to reflect light from the candle; and the wooden shutter that is pulled up out of a slot in the panelling. You very very occasionally see this in a Georgian house but why have we abandoned this clever idea? It  keeps out the cold, gives privacy and even keeps out burglars. This is The Artist in his Studio (1783) by Richard Morton Paye.
