Mary Elwell (1874-1952) had been Mary Holmes: she and her husband Alfred were close friends of Fred Elwell’s in Beverley. But Alfred died in 1913 aged only 58. A year later, when Mary was 40, she married Fred Elwell and he went to live in Bar House which Mary and her first husband had bought in 1910. This is a bedroom at Bar House in 1935 – painted by Mary.
