Francesca, who does the odd day in the shop, is writing a biography of Mecklenburgh Square (to be published by Faber in 2018) and it will, of course, feature Virginia Woolf who lived at no.37 from 1939-40 when it was destroyed by a bomb. This paintingĀ of the square by Enslin du Plessis which is now at the Southampton City Art Gallery is from the 1950s but those curtains are almost certainly a Duncant Grant design.
