Recently there was an an exhibition called Care Then and Now at the Oxo tower. It told the story of the food parcels that were sent after the war by well wishers in the US: thousands of people in the UK and Europe received surprise food packages like this one, often simply addressed to, for example, ‘A Hungry Man in London’ or ‘A Widow in Coventry’.
