To think that ‘Rav’ and Bawden and all the Great Bardfield artists could have said to Tirzah, don’t spend your time gardening or shelling peas or cleaning or washing my clothes, but spend as much time as we do on painting or wood engraving or marbling paper. However, as Robert Harling said, Tirzah was ‘uncommonly and genuinely modest and a devoted wife and mother.’ He adds, ‘but as far as her work was concerned, she certainly lost out.’
