Jane Bown was best known for her portraits of the famous but she was also a superb photo-journalist, taking photographs of the everyday and the ordinary and the not so ordinary over six decades. This wonderful photograph, which makes you feel you were there holding a placard and setting out with them, is called Women’s Liberation March, Portobello Road 1972. (There is a very good book about the Portobello Road by Julian Mash which we sell in the shop and it’s available for £10 from the Idler Academy here.)
