Monet’s Bouquet of Gladioli, Lilies and Daisies was painted in 1878. It is ubiquitous – on mouse pads, thermos flasks, posters, trays. The original is in a private collection and was last sold at Christie’s in New York in 2005 for nearly three million dollars (scroll down here for an interesting essay on the Christie’s site on Monet’s flower painting). Funny that the People’s Supermarket gladioli cost £3 – quelle difference.
